India vs South Africa T20Is in Stats: It's Advantage MS Dhoni & Co.

The upcoming India versus South Africa Twenty20 international series will be the eighth series between two Test-playing nations to comprise of three T20I games. Pakistan and South Africa have played three such series while India have never played three T20 games in a bilateral series. (India vs South Africa Preview)


Following are some interesting statistical highlights:


# India have played 55 Twenty20 internationals. They have won 31 games, lost 22, one ended in a tie, while one produced no result. South Africa have played 80 matches, won 47 times, lost 32 games and one game ended in no result. (Five Talking Points Ahead of T20 Series)


# India and South Africa have played eight times. India won six games and lost twice. The last occasion when these two teams played a T20I was at Dhaka on April 4, 2014. # India’s highest team total is 189 for 5 at Gros Islet on May 2, 2010, while South Africa’s highest team total is 219 for 4 at Johannesburg on March 30, 2012. This is also the highest team total in India-South Africa T20I matches. (What’s in Store for MS Dhoni’s Team)

# Suresh Raina has an aggregate of 214 runs, the most runs by an Indian batsman against South Africa. Jacques Kallis’ 140 is the most by a South African batsman against India.


# MS Dhoni has an aggregate of 99 runs and require one run for his 100 runs. If he gets it, he will then become the fifth Indian batsman to total 100 plus runs against South Africa. # Rohit Sharma has an aggregate of 181 runs and requires 19 more runs for his 200. If he gets it, he would then become the second Indian batsman to score 200-plus T20 runs against South Africa.


# Raina’s 101 is the highest individual score by an Indian batsman against South Africa, while Colin Ingram’s 78 represent the highest individual score by a South African batsman against India.


# Murali Vijay, Dinesh Karthik, Yusuf Pathan and MS Dhoni are the four batsmen who have collected a duck against South Africa in T20Is. T Henderson, Hashim Amla, Shaun Pollock and JP Duminy are the four South African batsmen to score ducks against India in T20Is.


# Zaheer Khan and Ravichandran Ashwin, with six wickets each, share the record for most wickets by an Indian bowler against South Africa. Zaheer Khan (6), Ashwin (6), RP Singh (5) are the three bowlers who have taken five or more wickets against South Africa in T20Is. No South African bowler has captured an aggregate of five wickets against India in T20Is. Johan Botha’s four wickets is the most by a South African against India.


# RP Singh (4 for 13), Zaheer Khan (3 for 22), Ashwin (3 for 22) and L Balaji (3 for 37) are the four Indian bowlers to capture three or more wickets against South Africa in T20Is. Botha (3 for 16) is the only South African bowler to capture three or more wickets against India in T20Is.
