Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing an election rally in Bihar’s Banka.

Banka, Bihar:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Bihar’s Banka district, his first in the state since the five-phased elections were declared.

Here are the highlights of his speech:

  • I have been told that a PM is visiting Banka after many years.

  • This time Bihar will celebrate two Diwalis.

  • There are few events in India’s history that have not started from Bihar.

  • India cannot develop without development in Bihar.

  • We have seen feudalism, capitalism, separatism and nepotism…everything. For once, I urge you to vote for development-ism.

  • Politics apart, the poor people of this country are our number 1 priority.

  • The sons and daughters of Bihar have to leave their parents and go look for employment elsewhere, I want to change this.

  • What we are doing for Bihar is not a favor, it’s your right and you gave me the honour of being the one to give it.

  • If I decide to send a cheque of Rs 1.25 lakh crore I’m sure the current Bihar government will send it back.

  • The earlier government promised to give electricity, did you get electricity?

  • Does this current government deserve your votes?

  • I am not comparing Bihar with other states.

  • I’m comparing simply comparing Bihar with Jharkhand.

  • 15-10-years ago, Bihar and Jharkhand were the same states.

  • And look, what the government in Jharkhand has managed to achieve.

  • Let me talk about a World Bank survey. In the survey, Jharkhand was at number 29 and Bihar was at 27th position.

  • Two weeks ago, in yet another survey, Bihar is still number 27 and Jharkhand is now at number 3.

  • Make your decision and I assure you I will there with you at every step.
