Maharashtra Leaders Pay Homage to Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri

Mumbai:  Rich tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on the

occasion of their birth anniversaries today.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis garlanded portraits of the two stalwarts at Mantralaya this morning.


“We are moving ahead on the path of development shown by Mahatma Gandhi. My salutations to Rashtrapita on his birth anniversary,” Mr Fadnavis tweeted.


In another tweet, he said, “My salutations to one of the greatest sons of Bharat Mata. A humble, visionary leader Lal Bahadur Shastriji on his birth anniversary!”

State Congress president Ashok Chavan paid floral tributes at Mahatma Gandhi’s statue near Mantralaya on his 146th birth anniversary and to Shastri on his 111th birth anniversary at his statue near Regal cinema in South Mumbai.


Later, at Tilak Bhavan, Chavan and state unit office-bearers and party workers paid homage to the two



leaders by garlanding their portraits.


In his speech, the Congress leader recalled their contribution in the freedom movement and nation building and how their teachings were relevant in the present time.


The Nationalist Congress Party or NCP also paid tributes to the two leaders at a function in the party office.
