New Delhi:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi is today expected to attend a meeting called by the Rashtriya Swyamsevak Sangh or RSS now on in the capital for the last three days. Today is the last day of the meeting, where PM Modi’s top ministers have made presentations.

The PM is expected to speak at the meeting, chaired by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

The meeting has over the last three days focused on charting what is being called a “course correction” for the 15-month-old Modi government, to get rid of negative perceptions that it might have earned from recent controversies and political setbacks that have rocked it.

The RSS, which is the ruling BJP’s ideological mentor, has offered suggestions to the government in crucial areas like the economy, education and national security. BJP general secretary Ram Madhav has said “all national and economic issues are on the agenda,” at the closed-door event, also being attended by 15 affiliates of the RSS.

Senior ministers have spent major portions of the last two days at the Madhyanchal Bhawan in Delhis’ Vasant Kunj where the meeting is being held. Among those who have made presentations to all groups of Sangh members and fielded some tough questions are Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, Defence Minister Manohar Parrihar and Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani.

Opposition parties have strongly criticised the exercise, asking why the country’s ministers are making presentations on policy to the RSS and its affiliates.

“The RSS-BJP meet has a clear message that remote control has turn into overt control. The actual boss is Mohan Bhagwat… This govt is a puppet in the hands of the RSS,” said the Congress’ Manish Tewari on Thursday.

The meeting is aimed at better coordination between what is called the Sangh Parivar and the BJP government. The RSS has asked its affiliates for their feedback, which the ministers are expected to refer to while tweaking policy.
