Peon Held for Allegedly Taking Rs 1 Lakh Bribe

Panaji:  A peon working with Goa transport department was today arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in Panaji, police said.

Following a complaint, sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) laid a trap at his office and apprehended Dattaram Gaude, a senior ACB official said.

The accused was working in department’s head office in Panaji where senior officials are functioning, he said.

“The peon was found in possession of Rs one lakh when ACB raided his office. Police are tying to ascertain the source of money. Prima facie, the case seems to be that of corruption.

We are recording his statement,” a crime branch official said. The ACB had last month arrested two senior transport officers after they were caught taking bribe from contractor.
