Katrina, Saif's Phantom Makes Rs 8 Crores on Day 1

After super successful Bajrangi Bhaijaan, director Kabir Khan’s Phantom started on a low note, by making mere Rs 8 crores on the first day of its release, on August 28.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted:

Kabir’s Bajrani Bhaijaan starring Salman Khan made a whopping Rs 27.25 crores on the first day.

Phantom, starring Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles, opened to mixed reviews. The film revolves around a plot conceived by an Indian soldier (Saif) to assassinate Pakistani militants behind the 2008 Mumbai bombings. In his review for NDTV, Saibal Chatterjee said: “Kabir Khan is on a roll after Bajrangi Bhaijaan, a film that reveled in celebrating the idea of peace in the region. Phantom goes to other end of the spectrum and harps on an eye-for-an-eye philosophy. The question the film poses is: if the US can do it, why can’t India? We cannot because Bollywood does not have either a Daniel Craig or a Tom Cruise to add heft to fanciful actioners. But to Khan’s credit, his narrative eschews jingoism and stops short of painting the whole of Pakistan with the same brush.” (Movie Review: Phantom)
