South Africa A had literally no answers to young Axar Patel’s spin on the final day of their second unofficial Test against India A at Wayanad on Friday. The batsmen, in their second innings, fell like a pack of cards as the 21-year-old not only claimed four wickets but did not give away a single run in his six overs – an effort which helped his side win the match by an innings and 81 runs. Axar, who has played 18 ODIs and claimed 23 wickets, was menacing on the final day track at Wayanad. The Gujarat bowler had claimed a fifer (5/92) in South Africa A’s first innings and returned with a vengeance in the second.
India had declared their first innings on a mammoth 417 for eight – courtesy Axar’s 69 not out with the bat. It left South Africa A with 157 runs to erase deficit. The youngster however returned with the ball and bowled out the opposition for a paltry 76.
With the win, India took the two-match series 1-0.
